Summer Mentorship Program! Mondays, 8:30 - 10:00, July 8 - Aug 26 (8 weeks)
Welcome to Side Street Swing's Summer Mentorship Program!
This class is all about personal development! Our goal is to foster talent and develop individual dancers within our scene, by pairing motivated students with a mentor who can help them work toward their own personal dance goals. We want to dig deep, build strong relationships, and help people get really targeted, useful feedback. It's a commitment that will challenge you to grow, change, and deepen your understanding of who you are as a dancer. If you think that sounds interesting, keep reading!!
What exactly is it?
Think of it as a series of ongoing private lessons, in a space filled with other motivated dancers, with a teacher chosen specifically for you.
When you register, you will be contacted by email and asked to identify a specific goal to work towards over the summer. The goal can be anything - becoming more comfortable experimenting, getting a better sense of the music, learning a particular routine or pattern, working on acrobatics, becoming a more responsive partner... the sky's the limit, but it needs to be specific, and it needs to come from you.
We will use the goals to help pair students with mentors, and your mentor will develop a plan to help you work toward your goal.
Who is this meant for?
This program is meant for dancers who are excited about improving their dancing. They have done the whole swing series as well as some specialty classes, they may have experimented with teams or other projects, and they occasionally (or frequently) travel for dance. Maybe they are out social dancing all the time, or maybe they are involved in the community as organizers. Skill level should be high-intermediate/advanced, but skill level is not nearly as important as interest, commitment, and drive. If you are excited about getting better at dancing and you are ready to commit to putting in the practice, this is the place for you!
I'm in! Give me the details!
The class runs on Mondays from 8:30 - 10 pm, for 8 weeks from July 8th to August 26th. Each mentor will have 1-2 students, and all mentor groups work together in the same space. Students can sign up on their own or with a partner, however all students MUST pre-register for the class - we need time to make good matches!
- The registration cutoff date is June 17th
- There is a 6 student minimum to run this class
- There *IS* a class on the Civic Holiday Monday (August 5)
