Solo Charleston: Mondays, Aug 13 - 27, 7:00 - 8:30 pm (3 Weeks)
Charleston is a very high energy dance, characterized by lots of kicking and sweeping feet. Think of flappers, speakeasies, and the height of the jazz era, and you'll be in the right area! Charleston was a huge dance craze which evolved a great deal over the 1920's and 30's, and both 20's and 30's Charleston can be danced either solo or with a partner. In this class we will use a short choreography to learn some of the fundamentals of Charleston in it's solo form.
Learning to solo dance is a great opportunity to work on your skills as a dancer, to improve your balance, learn new rhythms, and to give you skills for improvisation. You'll find it helps your partnered dancing as well as your personal movement! As a bonus you will have a fun workout!
The choreography will be accessible to all levels, and a performance opportunity will be available to any members of the class who would like to show off what they've learned.
