Charleston! Charleston! The dance craze that swept the world in the late 1920's is making a comeback in Ottawa. Come learn to dance like it's 1927!
Charleston is a very high energy dance, characterized by lots of kicking and sweeping feet. Think of flappers, speakeasies, and the height of the jazz era, and you'll be in the right area!
Based on traditional African-American dance forms and adapted for broadway in the 1920's, Charleston quickly became a huge sensation. It's easy to see why! This dance is joyful, exuberant, and creative, but most importantly, it's lots and lots of fun!
In this class we will focus on the basics of vintage Charleston - what makes it different and special, and how to use it to dance the night away! There is no prerequisite for this intro class. Just grab your dancing shoes and get ready to kick up your heels!
